Today, I had the distinct pleasure of photographing Cathy and Khang’s one-year anniversary shoot at the beautiful Upham Beach in Saint Pete. The couple looked absolutely radiant as they strolled along the sandy shore, hand in hand, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. This session wasn’t just about commemorating their first year of marriage but also about capturing the ongoing love story that began at their wedding, expertly photographed by my associate, Rebecca.

As I set up my camera and adjusted my settings, I couldn’t help but admire the natural beauty of Upham Beach. The soft, cloudy light created the perfect conditions for capturing stunning, romantic images that would be cherished for years to come. This type of light is ideal for beach photography sessions, as it provides a gentle, diffused glow that minimizes harsh shadows and brings out the natural colors of the surroundings. I knew these photos would be timeless, perfect for creating a beautiful, editorial-style album that Cathy and Khang could treasure forever.

Tips for a Perfect Beach Session at Upham Beach:

  1. Time of Day: Aim for a session during the golden hour, either early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is low in the sky. This lighting is ideal for capturing soft, warm tones that complement the beach’s natural beauty.
  2. Weather Watch: Keep an eye on the weather. While cloudy days can provide excellent lighting, be prepared for the wind and embrace it. Wind-swept hair and flowing clothes can add a dynamic, romantic touch to your photos.
  3. Wardrobe: Choose outfits that are both comfortable and stylish. Flowy dresses and light fabrics work wonderfully for beach sessions, allowing for natural movement in the wind.
  4. Embrace Spontaneity: Don’t be afraid to get a little adventurous. Whether it’s dipping your toes in the ocean or running through the sand, these spontaneous moments often result in the most memorable images.

One of the challenges I faced during the shoot was the unpredictable weather typical of beach photography in Saint Pete. At times, the wind would pick up, causing Cathy’s hair to fly in all directions. However, rather than seeing this as an obstacle, I embraced these moments, using them to my advantage. The candid shots of Cathy and Khang laughing and enjoying the breeze added a layer of authenticity and joy to the session that couldn’t have been planned.

My primary goal was to ensure that Cathy and Khang felt just as positive and comfortable as they did on their wedding day. Encouraging them to relax and be themselves, I captured organic poses and candid moments that truly reflected their deep love and connection. These are the moments that make beach anniversary sessions like this so special—they’re not just about the pictures, but about reliving and celebrating the joy of being together.

One of the most memorable moments of the shoot came when Cathy and Khang decided to take a spontaneous dip in the ocean. As they splashed around in the water, laughing and holding each other close, I knew I had captured something truly magical. These images, full of love, laughter, and spontaneity, perfectly encapsulated the spirit of their relationship and the carefree joy of a beach session.

Overall, the experience of photographing Cathy and Khang’s anniversary shoot at Upham Beach was incredibly rewarding. I felt honored to document their love and create images that they would cherish for years to come. For anyone considering a beach engagement or couples session in Saint Pete, I highly recommend Upham Beach for its stunning scenery and romantic atmosphere. The combination of soft light, sandy shores, and the endless horizon makes it the perfect backdrop for capturing the love you share. Whether it’s your engagement, anniversary, or just a special moment in your relationship, a session at Upham Beach will result in timeless images that tell your love story beautifully.
